Center Jonathan Toews’ spearhead rebound helps Blackhawks with 2022 season start
Jonathan Toews
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews missed the 2020-21 season with chronic immune response syndrome but in the recent ongoing NHL season, “Captain Serious” is nearing his full-form rebound. He has a pretty good start this season, compared to his last accomplishment.
Last season he set off with 12 goals and 37 points in 71 games, the lowest totals in all of his 15-season NHL career. Currently, he has scored 10 points with 7 goals and 3 assists in 16 games, ranking 3rd on the team. Toews is going with an ice time of 17:10 per game, 3rd among team forwards Patrick Kane, and Max Domi.
When he was asked if he was playing in his full form, Toews, just replied with a smile “No”. He is still left to bring out his absolute best, while he is currently leading the team with 7 goals, good ice minutes, and winning face-offs. This was a welcome site to his teammates, who missed him during his rehabilitation period.

Teammates delighted to have Jonathan Toews back on ice
The 34-year-old is not satisfied but is happy with plays as of now. The team has created a strong foothold with numbers being 6-7-3. He stated, “I think at this point I feel I’m getting better and better and getting closer and closer to playing the game at a high level and at a level that I feel, maybe, I haven’t reached before, because of the experience I’ve had over the course of my career.”
After the loss to St. Louis Blues on Wednesday a 5-2 loss, Captain Serious, won 65.4 percent this season, his best being 59.1 percent in the 2012-13 season. Blackhawks coach Luke Richarson said, “He’s working hard, he keeps his shifts short”. “He knows that sometimes I rely on him for defensive-zone face-offs, especially at the end of games, one-goal games.
We have to count on him. He’s really excited to be back playing and feeling healthy again. I count on him a lot. I know the team does and I think he expects a lot from himself. There are a lot of things that drive him to be what he is, and he’s been the leader so far. So that’s great to see.”
Defenceman Connor Murphy stated, “He skated a ton, probably more than anyone, doing conditioning skates on the ice. To see him kind of be himself around the net, it seems like he gets all those goals [there]. It’s hard for guys to defend him. He has that strong, wide base and he knows how to time plays to get to the net and get those plays.”
Toews, who usually stands with his strong confident self wasn’t sure in the past if he could ever bring out his best games again on the ice. Seeing his own improvement has not only delighted his teammates but has also elevated his own confidence. He has also noted that under Richardson’s guidance the team has been off to a solid start.
Toews said, “There were definitely moments of doubt like that, but you just work through them”. “I think it’s just learning a whole new level of patience and understanding the new challenge ahead of you. It gives you a new appreciation for your health and your body and what you get to do for a living. You really cherish and be grateful for it.”
