Ottawa Senators updated the status of Josh Norris, hinting that he may be missing the whole 2022-23 NHL season due to his shoulder injury. In the last season, he missed out on 15 games due to a shoulder injury, though it was a different injury than this one.

He’s been hurt on the same shoulder, so medical discussions are currently in process regarding further treatment. Norris left mid-way on Saturday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes. The team won the match 6-2 later updated about the center’s health.

Coach D.J. Smith said, “He’s one of our best players, he’s our most responsible centerman at this point in his career with players that he’s played against,”. “… He can score, he can do a lot of things. If you take that player out of a lot of teams’ lineups, it changes the dynamic.”

After practice on Wednesday, Smith further updated on the latter’s condition, “If at some point we get him back, great”. “When you hear ‘long term,’ you’re thinking three months, four months, five months, six months.”

“Different injury than the last one, same shoulder, different injury”. “Is he going to require surgery or not? We’re in the middle of that right now. We’ll know a little more in the next four-five days but it’s long-term.”

On July 15, Norris signed an 8-year $63.6 million contract with the Senators, while setting a career-high of 35 goals, 20 assists, and 55 points in 66 games last season. During his absence the coach and the team as to pull some serious strings in order to set the roster right.

As of now, the team has a score of 4-2-0 with 4 wins and 2 losses. On Thursday, they’ll be facing off Minnesota Wild. Smith commented, “It’s unfortunate Josh isn’t here to be a part of it, but you’ve got [Shane Pinto]“.

 “… (General manager) Pierre (Dorion) did a great job in having (Derick) Brassard here. You’ve got (Dylan) Gambrell, you’ve got (Mark) Kastelic, so there’s some guys in the middle there that can help.”
