Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky recently stated that he has learned his lesson after receiving a 2-game suspension and a penalty from the NHL. His suspension followed after his hit to Detroit Red Wings forward Matt Luff, for which he later apologized.
After Monday’s practice, the 2022 No. 1 overall pick talked about his recent suspension on last week’s 3-2 victory. Juraj will return in the game against New Jersey Devils. In the last 2-suspended game, he spent his time watching over the player’s movements and learning from them.
In preparation for Tuesday’s game at Bell Centre, the 18-year-old stated, “I have to be smarter”. Juraj is excited about the game, as his mother will also be present in the arena. His parents have been in town for some time, but due to his suspension, they couldn’t watch him play. Though the forward’s father had to return home, his mother will still be there to cheer for him.
Juraj Slafkovsky states he’s learned his lesson from the past incident
After the horrible accident with Luff, Juraj Salfkovsky stated, “I didn’t mean to hurt him”. “I had my eyes on the puck and I wanted to finish my check. I was skating into him and he turned to face me and what happened happened. I reached out to him and he texted back and thanked me for reaching out. It sucks what happened to him with the injury.”
No matter what, the accident resulted in Luff having to undergo wrist surgery, and is expected to be out till mid-January. Juraj further commented, “It’s always tough when you’re about 50 pounds heavier”. “You don’t try to do that, but I learned from it.”
The only positive point amongst all of it was that the team kept their winning streak alive to 3 games. Till now, Juraj has scored 3 goals, including 1 on a power-play. He further had the chance to hone his skills by watching his teammates play from the press box.
He stated, “I enjoyed that moment”.“It’s always good when your team wins because the atmosphere off the ice is great and we’re happy to come to the rink every day. We have a little string going, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
