The Game 3 playoffs between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers saw the Florida-based side win 3-2 in overtime. This has left the Maple Leafs on the brink of elimination. A close third game saw controversial moments go in the favor of the Panthers. Former NHL defenseman Kevin Bieksa threw serious shots at the officials after this game.
Bieksa called out the officials during a segment that aired during the second phase of intermission. He took a matter regarding the interference call made by the Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly. The defenseman got mixed up with Anthony Duclair, forward of the Florida Panthers.
“It wasn’t a good call. They are gonna kind of run into each other and they are jostling for position on the left backcheck. I get that there is a bit of a left-hand reach, but Rielly is entitled to this ice as much as Duclair,” Bieksa said regarding the decision.
“I just think with the way this game has been called, it’s been so tight, you can’t call that a penalty. There’s only been two penalties now in the game and that’s one of them? Eugh! C’mon man!” he added.
Is this the end of the Toronto Maple Leafs this year?
Time is running out for the Toronto Maple Leafs. After a heartbreaking 3-2 OT loss to the Florida Panthers, they are now on the edge of elimination. Sam Reinhart scored at 3:02 to give his side a commanding 3-0 lead in the playoffs. The Leafs will now need a miracle to overcome the situation they are facing now.
Maple Leafs’ high-power attack was not living up to the expectations of many fans and experts. They had scored just ten goals in their last five games. The quartet of William Nylander, John Tavares, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner are failing to make the desired impact. “Got to find a way to capitalize a little more,” Tavares explained.
In the long history of the NHL, only four teams have ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game series. The Leafs themselves did so in 1942. The New York Islanders (1975), Philadelphia Flyers (2010), and the Los Angeles Kings (2014) are the other three sides to have achieved this feat. They are currently 3-1 on the road in the play-off rounds and have lost three successive games for the first time since October 2011.
