Kirby Dach pens down $13.45 million deal with Canadiens while Carey Price gets placed on LTIR

Carey Price and Kirby Dach

Last season, ex-Blackhawks forward Kirby Dach got traded to the Montreal Canadiens after having an NHL career-high of 9 goals, 17 assists, and 26 points in 70 games. On Wednesday, he finally finalized the contract with his new team at a worth of $13.45 million for 4-year on an annual average value of $3.3625 million.

The 21-year-old forward played in 152 NHL regular-season games while posting a record of 59 points with 19 goals and 40 assists and 6 goals with 1 goal and 5 assists in 9 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Though it’s celebratory news for the team, the fans can’t be 100% happy about the outcome, as their favorite goalie Carey Price is placed on an off-season LTIR. He is still recovering, but unfortunately, no one can deliver good news regarding his condition as of now.

After signing his contract, Dach said, “The four-year deal [will] really help me out in the long run if things all go well,” Dach said. “… But at the end of the day, it’s about winning Stanley Cups, it’s not about making a lot of money.”

He further continued, “Obviously that comes down the road, but it’s second to winning.” “I’m excited to be here. It was a good first day, a good skate. Good to be around the guys. Just looking forward to the start of camp and getting things going.”

Habs general manager Kent Hughes noted, “There’s no such thing as being 100 percent certain in this business, but we believe he’s got a lot of potentials”. Not only Kent, or Dach, but many teammates are also getting positivity from the team’s decision, which was much needed considering Price getting sidelined indefinitely.

He further said, “We believe in this environment, with our group, with our coach (Martin St. Louis), with our development group and the character of the locker room, that this is a better environment for Kirby Dach and an environment we’re comfortable that he is going to achieve good things in the Montreal Canadiens organization. … We are prepared to bet on it.”

Last season Price won the Bill Masteron Trophy for his plays and his character as a sportsperson. Regarding his condition update, Hughes said, “Carey’s knee has not responded to any kind of treatment and rehab that’s been attempted since he had the surgery after the (2021) playoff run”.

“We’re not very optimistic that, short of some kind of intervention, that thing will change,” he continued. For now, all we can do is pray for his quick recovery. After all, it’s just not the team that’s missing him, it’s also the Habs fans. All the best wishes and prayers are with him!
