“Best way to go” – Kirby Dach traded to Canadiens by Blackhawks for 2022 NHL Draft picks
Kirby Dach picked by Montreal Canadiens at 2022 NHL Draft
During the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Entry Draft, center Kirby Dach was traded by the Montreal Canadiens by the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday at Bell Centre for the No. 13 and No. 66 picks. Montreal has acquired No. 13 from the New York Islanders in a trade for defenceman Alexander Romanov and the No. 98 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Dach has 26 points with 9 goals and 17 assists in 70 games this season. The 21-year-old was selected by Chicago as the No. 3 pick in the 2019 NHL Draft with 59 points in 152 regular-season games and 6 points in 9 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He was the second forward traded by Chicago who also sent Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators.
Kirby Dach joins the Canadiens
Montreal Canadiens general manager said about Kirby Dach on ESPN, “We had, through the rumor mill, heard that they might be willing to move him”. “So, we had conversations that didn’t really go anywhere, based on what they were looking for, to make that pick. Over the course of conversations internally, we tried to move up in the draft because that’s what they were looking for, and we were trying to do it with picks. … So, unfortunately, we lose a good member of our team Alexander Romanov, and we wish him the best. But in doing that, we were able to get where we needed to go to make this happen.”
According to nhl.com, Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said, “[Dach and DeBrincat] are good players”. “They’re good players and you know, DeBrincat is a little more established in his career. He’s a highly productive player. But you know what, we’re in our rebuild, we need assets, we need young assets, and we need to build up that prospect base, and we thought that was the best way to go. We’ve got our process, we’re sticking to it. We’re happy with how today is going.”
