In the National Hockey League, fights are the most common thing apart from goals galore. The fast-paced action of the game usually brings out heat among players due to the tension it creates. In another such fight, Kris Letang thumped down Peyton Krebs in an ugly altercation during the recent matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres.
It all happened during the second period of the match. A slight push would soon turn out into an all-out brawl as both sets of players got involved in the action. After some pushing and shoving, the officials were able to separate them and get things under control.
The major action in this chaotic encounter though was between Letang and Krebs. The Sabres’ man had previously attacked Sidney Crosby in their previous encounter while hitting Letang. The Penguins defenceman would not let it slide this time.
As they pushed each other down the ice field, Letang was seen landing a blow on Krebs. In the first viewing, it seemed that he might have missed his shot. However, slow-motion replays showed Letang landed a heavy punch on Krebs’ face. Check out the slow-mo video of their encounter shared on X below:
Sabres stun Penguins late on to complete comeback win
Following their five-game winning streak, the Penguins entered this game in poor form. They had lost four of the five games and hoped to end their losing run when they took the field with the Sabres. Unfortunately for them, the Buffalo-based franchises scored late on to stun them and complete a memorable 2-3 comeback win.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had given them the lead. Things seemed to have slipped out of their hand following the fight between Kris Letang and Peyton Krebs. They though would double their lead through Lars Eller as the game seemed heading in their direction.
With time running out in the third period, Jeff Skinner pulled one back to half the deficit. The Sabres struck again quickly as Kyle Okposo poked in a rebound to make it 2-2 with nine minutes of regulation time still to go. Alex Tuch turned out to be the match-winner as he managed to snick his shot in the net with less than three minutes left on the clock.
So despite the battle with Letang and taking a heavy blow in the face, it was Krebs who had the last laugh among the two. It was also a perfect bounceback for the Sabres following their overtime loss to the Washington Capitals.
The Penguins as a result of this match are now 9-10-0 for the season. Their next game sees them battle the Toronto Maple Leafs in Pittsburgh while the Sabres travel to New Jersey to take on the New Jersey Devils.
