“I’ve visualized it” – Gabriel Landeskog’s Stanley Cup dream is finally within reach as Avalanche advance to Final
Gabriel Landeskog
Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado Avalanche’s captain is relishing the first trip to the Championship series in his 11th NHL season. He has often visualized holding the Stanley Cup over his head and handing it to his teammates. His dream is now only a few steps away from Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
On Friday, Landeskog commented on how much he is excited about the upcoming game, “Yeah, I’ve visualized it quite a bit, especially the last six weeks or so”. “I mean, it’s — I wouldn’t say constantly on your mind, but it’s something, you know, you put your head on the pillow at night, it’s definitely something you think about and visualize and dream about. You know you’ve got to snap yourself out of that.”

Gabriel Landeskog’s Stanley Cup dream
Though Gabriel Landeskog has been dreaming of winning the Stanley Cup Finals, he still keeps a clear head and knows exactly what it takes to win the Cup. After 11 seasons of struggling and building he doesn’t want to take anything for guaranteed, as said on nhl.com.
As he warms up for the Finals, Wednesday is creeping near. The match will take place at Ball Arena in Denver at 8 p.m ET. Landeskog noted, “I’ve always let myself dream and always let my mind go there if it wants to”. “But it’s important to be able to snap out of it as well and get to today and what I can control today, and I think that’s what I talk about, the tough part of the playoffs and the mental grind of the playoffs. I mean, that’s it, not to let yourself get too far ahead. That’s what we talked about with our group: staying in the moment, staying focused on what we can do. But yeah, I mean, I’d be lying if I told you I haven’t been thinking about it.”

The tea captain has been with Avalanche since his 2011 NHL Draft pick. The Colorado Avalanche missed the playoff for 3 seasons in a row from 2014 to 2017. Landeskog said, “Speaking of the tough times, that was definitely it”. “It was [coach Jared Bednar’s] the first year. We went 6-0 in the preseason. We thought we had a good team. We thought we were going to be good. Things just kept getting worse and worse, even when we [thought] it couldn’t. … You were just hoping to get back to even average, to be an average team, and to be around .500 would have been great at that point just to not be the laughingstock of the NHL at the time.”
At last, he has come close to fulfilling his Stanley Cup dream. Gabriel Landeskog said in return, “To have this opportunity, now you realize what the older guys used to always say my first few years, that it’s not easy, that the chance to go to the playoffs doesn’t come around all the time — and the chance to be on a good team does not come around at all for some people. So, obviously, it’s a great opportunity for us, and we’ve got a lot of work to do ahead of us, but it’s been a long journey to get here.”
