Montreal Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle’s 1-game suspension by the NHL gets questioned by fans as several have opposing views on the incident. Some noted the league has become “soft” and Guhle should have been suspended further, while others talked about how he barely made any contact with the Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny.
The incident took place on Thursday night, with 5 seconds remaining in the second period. It took a controversial turn as Guhle hit Konecny while still being on the bench. As per NHL rules, no player on the bench can come in contact with or deliver any kind of blow to opposing players playing on the ice.
Guhle’s fate was officially determined on Friday by the league, as the 22-year-old was ordered to forfeit $4,496.53 for his actions. The money will be added to the Players Emergency Assistant Fund. One X user noted,

It isn’t about how hard he hit him, it is a trash move to swing from the bench.Another X user commented on Kaiden Guhle and Travis Konecny’s incident.
Although Kaiden Guhle suffered a 1-game suspension, the team won 4-1 against the Flyers. With Stanley Cup games approaching, the teams will be facing off against each other in a much harsher environment with playoff berth dreams on the line.
Was Juraj Slafkovsky the reason behind Kaiden Guhle and Travis Konecny’s bout?
Juraj Slafkovsky can be one of the reasons behind Kaiden Guhle’s attack on Travis Konecny. Although there has been no official statement, the whole incident unwrapped after Konecny’s tussle with the Canadien forward.
Their bout ended on a peaceful note with nothing major taking place. The two separated with only a few minutes on the clock, as Travis Konecny glided around Habs’ bench. From the video, it seemed like Guhle was ready with his stick to slash Konecny. It can be said that Kaiden Guhle, may have taken revenge for his teammate Slafkovsky but nothing is confirmed.
However, Guhle was not the only one to get suspended by the league. The news of his suspension came just hours after the NHL slapped Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway with penalty for his actions against Boston Bruins on 23 March. He was given a $2,000 fine as per league rules.
