LeBron James has broken hockey superstition: Don’t touch The Cup unless you’ve earned The Cup. LeBron got smitten with the Stanley Cup and went ahead to get a feel of it, ignoring all hockey superstitions. He got acquainted with the Cup ahead of the premiere of his show’s new episode, “The Shop”.
The NBA star might be thinking of adding another prized trophy to his collection soon. LeBron James was quite happy smiling and all while checking out the names on the trophy. The incident took place on Tuesday when he shared a private moment with the trophy, stopping to appreciate the prodigious Cup while enjoying his offseason break.

As LeBron James got closer to the Stanley Cup, he exclaimed “Damn!”. Till now whoever has gotten close to the Cup can relate to the feeling that LeBron got up close. As a controversial move, he got closer to the Cup touching its neck and engaging in its feeling.
As noted on nhl.com, the Los Angeles Lakers forward proved to everyone that he didn’t believe in any sort of superstition when he checked out and touched the Stanley Cup considered one of the most iconic trophies. Many people, including players and coaches, believe it’s bad luck to touch the Cup until you’ve officially won it and can hoist it at the end of the gaming season.
LeBron James is not only a basketball star but also has friendships with hockey. He is the partial owner of the Pittsburg Penguins since December after the Fenway Sports Group bought the team in which he has a stake. A Hall of Fame forward Charles Barkley once refused to touch the Cup as he had never won it, “I would never touch a championship trophy, even if it’s not my sport,” Barkley says. “It’s just a rule I have.”
Though there have been both positive and negative remarks about this incident, LeBron himself is quite satisfied within. The few moments he shared with the Cup were one of their kind, and he will never forget them. Amidst all the controversies, some even found the situation quite amusing.
