Los Angeles Lakers GOAT LeBron James embarrassingly fumbled around in a press conference after forgetting the name of his local NHL team. As per a report, Sports Illustrated, back in 1994 covered a story stating, “The NHL (is) hot and the NBA’s not”.
Now back in the present-day scenario, it seems the NBA star has forgotten his own ice hockey home team as he tries to confirm the team name during a press conference. The press conference talked about James’ interest in NBA’s hypothetical 31st franchise in Las Vegas.
During the conference, he said, “I would love to at some point down the road own an NBA franchise, (and) to be able to bring a winning franchise to a city”.
“Vegas is a really cool city, they’re doing some great things in sports these days. Obviously you’ve seen what the Aces are doing, how you’ve got the Raiders there, you’ve got the Kings (sic) there, the hockey team.”
LeBron James corrects himself quickly after forgetting local NHL team name
The press conference later corrected LeBron James stating that it was the Vegas Golden Knights who were in Las Vegas and the Los Angeles Kings occupied Los Angeles. Rather than misremembering the local teams in both places, his next reply upset both the NHL teams once again.
When corrected he stated, “Who?” he forgot that the Golden Knights were actually the local team in Las Vegas. He corrected himself quickly stating there are “two kings in L.A.” Kings who saw James reply during the conference, came back at him with a snappy reply.
The team posted a reply from its official account on Twitter stating, “Some roommates forget to do the dishes. Some roommates forget to take out the trash. Others forget you live there too ?.” the reply seemed perfect for a comeback, as fans took an exception to comment on the incident to follow it up.
The LA Kings will be facing Minnesota Wild with a scoring record of 32-18-7 in the 2022-23 season. As for the Wild, they carry a record of 30-21-5 into the playoffs. Getting ready to win games and go into the playoff season, the Kings have started to armor themselves well.
Just a few days back the organization signed defenceman Mikey Anderson to an 8-year extension with an annual average value of $4,125,000 million carrying it through the 2030-31 season. The contract also contains a 10-team no-trade clause starting from the 2026-27 season.
Kings GM Rob Blake said in a statement, “We’re excited to have a player of Mikey Anderson’s caliber signed to the Kings long-term”. “Mikey has not only developed into a trusted, shutdown player on the ice, but a well-respected individual in the room that we envision continuing to grow into our leadership core.”
