Twitter reacts as goalie Mackenzie Blackwood and forward Ondrej Palat out for several weeks
Mackenzie Blackwood and Ondrej Palat
Recently, New Jersey Devils declared return timelines for goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood and forward Ondrej Palat. According to them, Mackenzie who is currently out of the 2022 NHL season due to an MCL sprain, will make his comeback in the next 3-6 weeks.
Forward Ondrej Palat on the other hand will be taking leave from ice for 8-10 weeks approximately, following his groin surgery on 1 November. He was said to be out indefinitely, so his return timeline is a relief for the team and the fans. Mackenzie injured himself during the second period in a game against the Edmonton Oilers on 3 November.
During the game, he allowed 2 goals on 18 efforts made by the opposing team. Last season, Mackenzie only got ice time for 25 games as he suffered from a recurring left heel injury. Currently, he made a record of 4-2-0 with a 2.79 goals-against-average, and a .880 save percentage in 7 games this season.
Devils share timeline for forward Ondrej Palat’s return
Ondrej Palat on the other hand will be marking his return hopefully by 8-10 weeks, after missing 6 games this season. He scored 3 goals in 6 games as of now. Currently standing in the first season of his $30 million contract, Palat has scored of 426 points with 146 goals and 280 assists in 634 games.
Devils coach Lindy Ruff noted, “He’s 8-10 weeks, but I think if you saw him in the gym, he would argue with that statement and look at me like I’m crazy, but that’s where he’s at”. “So, let’s hope that he can put that through fruition.”
“Here’s a guy who’s won a couple of Stanley Cups and almost won a third and although he’s been out for a little period of time, he was within days, back in the gym, saying to everyone else that when I get back here I’m going to be ready…”
“…and be ready to make a difference and, in the meantime, other players have stepped in and he’s there by their side”. “I’m pretty sure he’s giving tips and lending advice to (forward Fabian) Zetterlund and (defenseman Kevin) Bahl.”
Before joining the Devils, he was part of the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he led the team to win the Stanley Cup back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. Last season too, he led the Lightning to the finals of the Cup race. Other than Palat and Mackenzie, goalie Jonathan Bernier is yet to participate in the season. He’s on the injured list with a hip injury.
