Zach Aston-Reese gets a lifeline as Toronto Maple Leafs to take a massive ‘gamble’ on a PTO
Zach Aston-Reese
Toronto Maple Leafs seem to grant out wishes these days, or such is the case this time around as they award Zach Aston-Reese a contract worth $840,630 for a period of one year. The 28-year frontman was previously on a professional tryout contract until the Maple leafs decided to give him the full monty.
Rewind to last season, Zach Aston-Reese amassed a total of 15 points with 5 goals and 10 assists to be precise. He played a total of 69 games for the Penguins of Pittsburgh and the Anaheim Ducks. Now he’s a permanent member of the Maple Leafs
Is Zach Aston-Reese the missing piece for Toronto Maple Leafs
The final rosters for the 2022-23 NHL season are due on Monday with the deadline set a 5 p.m. With this in mind, it made sense for the Toronto teams to get the business done for Zach Aston-Reese as soon as possible.
“Yeah, but I like to think I’m a loyal guy, I don’t think that’s in the cards for me” – said Aston-Reese on the possibility of joining as a SPC if some other club showed interest in the forward.
“He’s a guy I think we had an interest in as free agency got going and then just kind of ran out of money kind of thing,” said coach Sheldon Keefe earlier about the prospects of Zach joining the team as a full member.
The Maple Leafs are set to begin their campaign in the NHL hoping to make it to the Stanley Cup playoff. Good on his shutdown ability which impresses Keefe the most, Zach Aston-Reese will be hoping to work on his offense in order to make better contributions to the team’s journey.
