“Ottawa legend,” NHL favorite Mark Borowiecki hangs his skates after 12 glorious seasons, Twitter reacts

NHL favorite Mark Borowiecki announced his retirement on his Instagram page, thanking fans and the organization for supporting him in his 12-season journey. The 33-year-old was showered with praise all over social media for his work both on and off the ice.
Although not known for his offensive power, Borowiecki was one of the best hitters recording 1,831 hits in his career. He’s not only grown the game of hockey but also supported various foundations. He and his wife Tara are well known in the hockey community for their endeavors towards helping several small to big organizations.
In the 2022-23 season, Borowiecki scored 15 goals with 41 assists and 56 points in 458 games. Unfortunately, his last game came in 2022, October where he was put into IL for the long term. During the game, the defenceman was hit by Philadelphia Flyers forward Morgan Frost and had to be stretched off the ice.

Mark Borowiecki talks about his NHL legacy quoting his friend
Following his 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Mark Borowiecki has played with both hometown teams, Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators. His teammates always described him to be a calming presence in the locker room, as his leadership qualities were appreciated and respected by all.
Borowiecki was an absolute fan favorite as he never hesitated to give a fan his time of the day. He said that before his entry into the NHL one of his friends asked what he wanted his legacy to remain. He remembered his friend telling him to be “remembered as a good person and good teammate” before trying to be anything.
He further quoted his friend saying that being a good person and teammate is worth much more than any accomplishments on-ice, “I really hope that I have achieved that.” Back in April 2022, he told NHLPA, “Having a chance to reflect on my life…”
“…I’m old enough now and played long enough to realize it’s good to be vulnerable in hopes of helping others, whether it’s guys in the league, guys coming up in the AHL, or younger kids playing hockey”. “Whatever it may be, if I can pay forward the help, support and love I’ve had in my career, it would certainly be very fulfilling for me.”
Some fans have started to demand Sens give him a position immediately so that the former NHLer can start work soon. The love from the fans is evident enough of how much work and care he put into both his professional and private life to become the person he is today.
