There was hostility from the get-go as both teams battled hard. In this game of huge stakes, it was the Capitals who prevailed and ran out as 3-0 winners from the TD Garden.

This result brought out huge boos from the home crowd who were left unpleased with the performance of their team. Coach Jim Montgomery would later acknowledge their feelings and admit that the team was poor.

While the Bruins had nothing to cheer on from the game, the Caps were on cloud nine. Not only had they clinched a valuable result but their captain Alex Ovechkin had created history.

The Great Eight” netted in his fourth straight game. In this game, he wrapped the contest while scoring an empty-netter to make it 3-0. This saw him overtake Wayne Gretzky for the most empty-netter in the history of the NHL.

The Bruins have now lost four straight games. They will be hoping to end this poor string of results when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning in their next encounter. Meanwhile, the Caps will be aiming for another win when they lock horns with the Vancouver Canucks in their next outing.
