Florida Panthers winger Matthew Tkachuk was once again involved in a scrum, but this time it may seem a bit personal. Wednesday’s game is not an easy one to forget as we saw Tkachuk charging toward New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier relentlessly.
It may have something to do with Saturday’s game where Hischier did quite a number on Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov. The team announced that Barkov is currently day-to-day, and will be able to join the game soon.
In the recent Panther’s 4-2 loss, a brawl broke out between Panthers Sam Bennett and Devils Damon Severson. Both officials and players took the stage to join in the scrum. When players were looking for partners to engage with, Tkachuk made a beeline attack on Hischier.

It took some time, but Matthew Tkachuk’s relentless pursuit finally bore fruit when the forward got a hold of Hischier. Unfortunately for Tkachuk, the officials intervened and prevented any serious injury. While Tkachuk grabbed his collar, the Devils captain put his head down in a defensive pose.
It took multiple tries for the officials to separate both, but at last, Tkachuk was thrown out of the game for the remaining moments. The most notable thing in the fight was that it wasn’t accidental at all. Tkachuk tried to hit him intentionally.
After the loss to the Devils, the Panthers players were already agitated. Tkachuk both took out his frustration, plus sought revenge for his teammate. Hischier crosschecked Barkov’s leg with a malicious attack. Though Hischier denied that it wasn’t an intentional hit.
Hischier noted, “That was a huge draw. I take pride in my draws and obviously I didn’t do it on purpose”. “I didn’t even see it until the second period. I definitely hit his knee but it was not something I wanted to do or a dirty play. …It was definitely unlucky and I hope he’s not hurt too bad.”
Wednesday’s loss was definitely not in the Panthers’ plan, so we can safely say that things went out of control a bit. Currently, the team is headed with a point score of 15-15-4, which is far off the President’s Trophy-winning campaign. Tkachuk in his first season has scored a record of 39 points and 14 goals in 31 games.
