“I used to play baseball, but I have no first pitch or pitching background at all,” Forward Matthew Tkachuk said in a video posted by the team on Twitter. He’s feeling “quite at home” in Florida after his trade by the Calgary Flames in July.
In the video released by the Panthers, he further said, “I was never the guy that I don’t think was good enough to pitch. I was more on the hitting side, so I’ll try to throw a strike, try to get it over the plate.”
Matthew Tkachuk enjoys chit-chatting with Miami Marlins players and manager
A new city, a new night, a first pitch – isn’t it an amazing combination? Tkachuk was feeling the same excitement as he stood on the mound and threw the first pitch on Monday.
The game was between the Miami Marlins and Texas Rangers at LoanDepot Park. As a gift, the Marlins gave him a custom-made jersey with his No. 19 stitched on it. He was seen wearing the jersey all night wherever he went, whether it was for an interview, a friendly chit chat, or clicking pictures with fans.
He enjoyed a small talk with Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez and catcher Jacob Stallings about their pregame routine and throwing strategies. Matthew’s dad is also a baseball fan. He stated that if his dad knew he met Marlins manager Don Mattingly then he might feel jealous.
To avoid such complications, Mattingly took matters at hand and said “Hello” to Keith, Matthew’s dad. Mattingly an ex-MLB player, enjoyed all his 14 professional years with the New York Yankees. But let’s put it all aside. The most important part is Matthews seems to get well adjusted to South Beach.
