McDavid tops the Hart Trophy poll charts while Kucherov and Marner chosen for MVP

Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid has been coronated as the ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the NHL regular season 2022. 49 players in total were polled, 17 of which went on to select Connor McDavid as the top choice making it quite a win for the player.

He has already won the Hart Trophy twice, back in 2017 and 2021 and it won’t be absurd to say at this point that this pretty much looks like another feather moving toward his cap. He stands tall against three other peers and nominees for the preseason poll.

Last season’s winner, Auston Matthews belongs to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is a part of the poll too, gaining 10 out of 40 votes after McDavid, a considerable difference as of now. Cale Makar is another nominee running equivalent to Auston with 10 votes to boast.

“McDavid does it every night,” Tim Stutzle (Ottawa Senators forward) mentions, adding, “I think he’s too good for the League.” McDavid boasted the NHL.com favorite in the Trophy Tracking voting at the beginning. The fervor and praises for Connor are obvious, following his 441-point lead in the NHL with a mere 278 regular games while Leon Draisaitl is second in line with a 409 score for himself.

“I think just the impact he has on that team, I feel like he’s been carrying that team now for a long period of time, it’s impressive what he does year after year after year,” Hapus Lindholm states about McDavid, fan-peering him as well. McDavid is a consistent scorer undoubtedly and with the massive support that he has in his bags right now, he definitely has the push to explore his potential.

McDavid himself spoke about Makar who closed eighth in line, saying that he is good in his sport and a legit contender. If Makar wins, it would be a historic moment for the defenseman since 2000 when Chris Pronger got awarded. “He is so good, so talented and just learning more and more each year with his experience,” Bruins goaltender said. “And, obviously, he’s got great accolades already. But I think he’s just touching the limits of what he’s capable to do.”

Kucherov from the Tampa Bay Lightning and Mitchell Marner of the Maple Leafs are at 2 votes each with MacKinnon of the Avalanche league. The polls will soon close, but as of now, the result seems inclined toward a handful of favorites.
