“I’m having fun” – Minnesota Wild’s goalie Marc-Andre Fleury performs higher based on how much fun he’s having
Marc-Andre Fleury
Prior to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finale in 2009, Marc-Andre Fleury was leaning a garbage can filled with water against the door of the hotel room next to his in Detroit. Unfortunately, the then-Pittsburg goaltender was woken up by the noise from his neighbors and he quoted, “Some people having fun,”.
In form of getting a bit of revenge, Fleury positioned the trash can, knocked on the door, and walked away before water spilled into the hallway. Later at the ring, he saved 23 out of 24 shots and won a title. Fleury added, “I was just like, ‘I have to get these guys back,’”
The Minnesota Wild added in the defending Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL’s top goaltender and a Hall-of-Fame shoo-in to boost the team’s chances of getting a seat in the playoffs. The Wild also acquired a prankster nicknamed “Flower” who likes to talk at the goal post and wears flashy gear. Fleury said, “I feel like maybe I play better when I’m having fun,”.
Marc-Andre Fleury’s style of play
The excitement, angst, and emotion that Marc-Andre Fleury brings into the ring have remained the same as the time when he first started as a goalkeeper. As penned on news.yahoo.com, Wild’s defenceman Alex Goligoski said, “Very instinctive,”. “Very athletic and natural. He was born to be a goalkeeper, that’s for sure. Maybe more than probably anyone in the league, just a very natural athlete there.”
On the other hand, Montreal goaltender Carey Price said, “He’s like the Energizer Bunny,”. “He doesn’t seem to stop. He’s a real pro.” Unsurprisingly Fleury ranks 3rd in NHL history in wins (520) and is tied with 12th in shutouts (71) while recording the 7th most games (939). Marc-Andre Fleury runs with an average of 9-2 with 2.74 goals, and a .910 save percentage.
Fleury is good at being naughty, and one of the examples would be when he pulled off a prank with the team (Minnesota Wild) in Montreal as he put shaving cream in the towels. Later when Matt Boldy mocked Goligoski for being impersonated, he wiped his face with the towel and surprised himself. Fleury happily noted, “It worked”.
Marc-Andre Fleury’s sense of humour often relaxes his teammates before a game. His relaxed attitude serves a positive impact on his teammates. Foligno said, “It calms you down because it’s a pressure situation, especially in the playoffs,”. “He’s not fazed by it. He makes jokes, and you’re like, ‘Oh, okay. It’s all quiet now.’” Just as Fleury always notes, “It’s always about getting the next one.”
