“Competitive atmosphere where I thrive in” – Nazem Kadri excited to join the Battle of Alberta with Flames

Nazem Kadri
Ex-Avalanche centerman Nazem Kadri signed a 7-year $49 million deal with the Calgary Flames on 18th August. His sign-up sure did fuel up both controversies and congratulatory messages throughout social media. The 31-year-old’s monstrous performance with Avalanche in their Stanley Cup run caught the attention of many teams, of them one was Calgary.
The Flames always had their eye on Kadri, and it was not only after the playoffs but even before that. The Avalanche’s triumph over Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 may have added a bit more to his resume. With his electrifying performance, he scored 7 goals and 15 points in 16 games after recording a career-high of 87 points in 71 contests during the regular season.

Brad Treliving tied up loose ends after signing Nazem Kadri

On Thursday, he told “The Fan 960’s Pat Steinberg” that there were a lot of reasons he chose Calgary even though many other NHL teams offered him a greater sum of money. He stated that he was not chasing monetary value, but instead, Nazem Kadri was quite impressed with Calgary’s roster, player setups in their middle line, along with their readiness to compete for the playoffs immediately. All their setups and vibe made Calgary the most appealing team to look forward to.
Even after the loss of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk, there are great players on the team, and Kadri loved how they managed to fill in their holes swiftly by signing some star players onto the roster. Kadri is no stranger to the Battle of Alberta. He exclaimed how he was looking forward to taking part in it, “Very excited for sure.” “The Canadian battles are great with the competitive atmosphere which is something I think I thrive in.”
As far as choosing to signup with Calgary, Kadri stated, “Calgary was always a team that was interested from Day 1. Ultimately, it’s about winning, about being a contender. I feel that that played a huge factor in my coming to CGY – understanding that the time is now. It certainly could be close with the moves we’ve made and me hopping on board. I’m excited to meet the guys.”
Adding Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, and Nazem Kadri, was a smart move from Brad Treliving’s side, as he lit up the team’s spirit and erased all the peskiness going on after two of their star players left the organization. Instead of breaking down, Treliving aimed to retool and remain competitive. He did a wonderful job at keeping the flame of the Battle of Alberta alive by making the most out of an ugly situation.
