“A bunch of awesome players” – NFL Pro Bowler George Kittle coaches hockey game in Da Beauty League

American football tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, George Kittle participated as an honorary coach for Team Tradition at Da Beauty League. The three-time pro bowler stood behind the bench for a 4-on-4 summer hockey league with rosters made up of NHL, AHL, and college hockey players from Minnesota. 

Though Kittle may be a professional football player he can’t deny the fact that hockey made him tougher on the frozen ponds in Iowa. Wednesday he said, “I was usually the goalie and people would just whip pucks at me,” Kittle said Wednesday. “I’m not much of a skater.” As a longtime hockey fan, Kittle has been there in several Nashville Predators games, and one between Minnesota Wild and Boston Bruins.

George Kittle‘s connection with former Wild forward Nick Bjugstad made it easier for him to be in the plays, but they also share the same physio doctor located in Twin Cities. Bjugstad who signed a 1-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes on July 13th said, “He came in after me (to the doctor) and said he’s a big hockey fan, a big Preds fan, a big hockey guy”. “We were trying to get him on skates but no go. Too close to (football training) camp. I draft [Kittle] every year (in fantasy football), so it’s funny meeting him and getting to know him a little bit.”

While in Iowa there are a lot of football players, Kittle mentioned that he is amazed all the time to see so many Minnesota natives there in the hockey rink, “I did not realize how many guys are from Minnesota playing in the NHL”. “All the guys were great. Met a bunch of awesome players.” As per nhl.com, when asked whether he would later like to be a part of the hockey sport, Kittle said, “I don’t know about that”. “But I just love it. What a fun sport.”
