The tournament took place over the weekend when the league posted images of it on social media supporting the game. Their support gained positive affection from hockey fans, while also getting severe backlash for it. It is the first tournament that consisted of transgender and nonbinary people only.

As per the National Hocket League, the tournament took off with 80 people from trans and nonbinary communities. To further solidify its standpoint, the Hockey League used hashtags #HockeyIsForEveryone and #NHLPride. Despite detailing the match and player details, a user tweeted, “So, men playing on womans team?”

While NHL defended itself, their comment further agitated the fans both for and against the idea. American radio and TV host Dana Loesch commented, “Stop erasing women”, whereas, conservative podcaster Ben Shapiro stated, “If this is true, why aren’t there any trans men in the NHL? They’re real men, after all. Must be terrible and vicious discrimination”.

As the clash fired up, NHL limited its twitter comments section. Only those that the league follows were allowed to comment or for people mentioned in their original tweet. The League stated, “We support any teammate, coach or fan who brings heart, energy and passion to the rink”.

“We believe all hockey programs – from professionals to youth organizations – should provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment for players and families regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.”

The National Hockey League added members of the LGBTQ+ community. They included Black, Asian, Latin, and Indigenous people to the “Hockey is for Everyone” program. The ‘said’ tournament took place on the weekend – Saturday and Sunday, including 80 people from the trans and nonbinary communities. The game was hosted by Team Trans Hockey.

The Federalist senior editor, David Harsanyi stated, “If that’s so, why aren’t there any trans men playing in the NHL — or AHL or OHL or WHL or ECHL?” While some defended the league commenting, “Anyone being transphobic in the comments deserves NOTHING but the worst. Y’all are truly such sad people”.
