The Chicago Blackhawks just cannot catch a break at the moment. The team has yet to win successive games this season as the young team continues to come up short. Veteran Nick Foligno has now ripped into the youngsters following their 4-2 defeat to the St. Louis Blues.
In a week where they came back to win 4-3 in overtime against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Blackhawks suffered another crushing defeat. Despite goals from Jason Dickinson and Kevin Korchinski, the Chicago-based side was unable to get the job done and endured another loss against their name.
Before their win against the Leafs, the team went on an unwanted five-game losing streak. It is clear that the expectations on the young shoulders are proving to be a little heavy at the moment. However, Foligno has dismissed this and claimed the team can do better and try to find any sort of motivation to do better.
Your hair should be on fire this whole year because you can be a big part...There is no excuse for that... we have to get out of our game and make sure that every time we step on the ice, find your motivation.Nick Foligno through NBC Sports Chicago
Can the Blackhawks survive the 2023-24 season with the loss of several veterans?
The biggest blow for the Chicago Blackhawks came earlier this year when it was announced that captain Jonathan Toews would be released from the team. The loss of their veteran leader was always going to be tough for them. Can they now survive this season with the loss of more veterans?
Every team in sports is filled with the hot blood of young talents and the cool composure of veterans. The loss of Toews was a huge one for the Blackhawks. However, they have been dealt major blows in the past few days in the form of Taylor Hall and Corey Perry.
Hall has been sidelined for the entire season following an injury. Meanwhile, the future of Perry seems uncertain following his absence from the team. Coach Luke Richardson would admit the team did take a few blows from this but claimed they are trying to bounce back from this setback.
The eyes are now on the young shoulders of Connor Bedard. The 18-year-old has so far lived up to his expectations while being the leading scorer for the team. However, he will need support from Foligno and others if they are to try and get the positive results they hoped for at the start of the season.
