Ex-NHL defenceman P.K. Subban has once again blasted the Edmonton Oilers for their inconsistent results in ongoing 2023-24 regular season games. Earlier his comments on the team’s defence system irked fans online. In his latest X post, he once again made it clear that the Oilers have yet to produce any result that screams as a Stanley Cup contender.
His first take on the team started in October where he called their defensive play poor. In early December he seemed to look favorably on the team as they pocketed a couple of wins, especially hyping Connor McDavid’s performance. His failure to appreciate their improved defensive game seemed to have made him the Oilers’ public enemy.

Although he called the Oilers a Stanley Cup contender, he still pointed out that their recent performance has failed to make them look like a strong team. He started by saying,
Have the expectations for the Edmonton Oilers changed? Well, not for me. I have championship expectations but according to the Edmonton Oilers fanbase, half of them want to throw a parade for the 13 wins, the other half want to burn my house down for the comments I made about this team.P.K. “I need to see that consistency,” P.K. Subban rips Oilers on lack of steady win records in regular season games
P.K. Subban ripped the Edmonton Oilers saying “they are just too easy to play against their own zone.” Although, admitting he “actually love watching Edmonton play,” he points out how the team leans more on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl’s performance.

He boldly stated that having two of the best players on their team “aren’t doing anything spectacular” rather they are just doing what they are meant to achieve. He pointed out Jack Eichel, labeling him “a stud and X factor” while giving an example of a well-played team.
Subban noted that the Vegas Golden Knights won the 2023 Stanley Cup not by solely leaning on Eichel’s power but by playing well defensively and well together. “Not just talent and skill,” but a team needs to play compactly to win the Cup. He states, “you need to trust your defensive structure to win you games some nights.”
But as far as Oilers go, “I need to see that CONSISTENTLY.” Although some may agree with his words, the Oilers fan base isn’t too thrilled with his comments. The regular season games are still far from over. How the team performs prior to the end and if they can catch a spot for the Cup race will depend on their future game results.
