Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron reached his 1,000th NHL point in the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Amalie Arena on Monday. The team won 5-3 when the captain shot his assisted 1,000th goal at 15:08 in the second period. Brad Marchand didn’t only assist in his goal but was also the first one to celebrate his moment.

With a lead in the second period at 4-1, Marchand mobbed Bergeron off the ice and hurdled together with the team as they all participated in celebrating the historic moment. As of now, Bergeron has 409 goals, with 519 assists in 1,235 games. It’s no wonder Marchand was the first one to recognize the moment, as he’s not only his teammate but a close friend too.

Bergeron said, “It’s a special game that gives you a lot, obviously you go through a lot of ups and downs”. “But in the end all you remember is those memories, friendships and the guys you go to battle with. It was a special moment.”

In congratulations and recognition of Bergeron’s achievement, a congratulatory video was shared by NHL players who are currently seated in the 1,000th point. The Bruins also stepped up by visualizing a memorable picture of the duo – Marchand, and Bergeron hugging each other.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery commented, “If he had any kind of cheat in his game he might have 1,200 or 1,300 points”. “But he’s just so dedicated to playing the game the right way and helping the team have success. He always thinks team, it’s amazing.”

In face of winning the game, Bruins forward Nick Foligno stated,  “We came out in the second and took over, so it was nice to be able to get that and go ahead. That’s what happens with our team, we just come in waves. Good teams do that, and it’s so hard to stop them.”
