Since Patrice Bergeron’s retirement on July 25, 2023, there’s been hope that the former Boston Bruins captain will return to ice once again. His comeback rumors were further fueled when a video of him skating on ice went viral on social media. There was also once talk about how Brad Marchand, the current team captain, wanted to talk him out of retirement.

But unfortunately, Bergeron squashed the rumors of his comeback in the latest post. He stated that he’s not interested in professionally competing on the ice again, but is enjoying his life at a “slow pace”. His skating on ice is to keep him in shape but not for matches.

Fans were hoping to see the captain don the Bruins jersey one more time, but he said he’s content seeing how the team is playing as of now. He proudly stated that he never had any doubt that the team would reach Stanley Cup contention even without his help. On X, he noted,

With Bergeron’s retirement, many thought the Bruins would fall in the regular season, but they have once again soared high in the Eastern Conference. Although he admitted “Wish I could play forever” he also admitted that now “I’m doing the things I’ve always wanted to do. I’m just enjoying life.”

Lookback at Patrice Bergeron’s illustrious NHL career

Although the Boston Bruins may be stable even without Patrice Bergeron, his gap is still felt by both fans and players even now. Brad Marchand once tried to talk him out of retirement stating it would be great if he could join between the mid-season and in Stanley Cup race.

Within his 19-year career with the Bruins, he successfully built an illustrious HOF resume. With a Stanley Cup in name in 2011, he has played in 1,294 games notching 1,040 points. As the National Hockey League’s top-notch defensive forward, he won the Selke Trophy several times.

Since his 2003 NHL Draft by the Bruins, he has served the team as its captain from 2021 till 2023 retirement. He won gold in 2004 and 2005 World Championships and World Junior Championships along with several other accolades. 

With a net worth of $92 million, as per reports, Bergeron, the 38-year-old, is enjoying his life to the fullest with his family. He admitted that he sometimes misses gearing up for the ice, but that feeling is short-lived. In the end, he has not regretted retiring last year and is enjoying his time leisurely skating and relaxing.
