The legend of Sidney Crosby continues to grow with each passing day. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain has mesmerized many with his incredible skills and abilities and has risen to be one of the greatest players. Also known as “The Next One”, tales of Crosby’s performances on the ice are countless. However, he might have never had the opportunity to do this if an incident during his young days had not unfolded.

Crosby was part of the baseball team during his school days. Had he not been kicked out of the team, he might have achieved success in the MLB like he did in the NHL. According to former NHL player Paul Bissonnette, Crosby got into a fight huge fight with his opponent along with Avalanche star, Jack Johnson.

The whole saga unfolded when Johnson and Crosby were forced to join a summer sports program at the Shattuck-St Mary. “They have a baseball game, and the pitcher from the other team starts brushing Jack Johnson our of the play,” Bissonnette recalled. He mentioned how Crosby was right behind him getting ready to bat next.

Things would escalate quickly from there on. Johnson would go charging in and fight off the pitcher and the first baseman. Crosby who was watching the drama unfold got hold of the catcher and had an altercation with him. The duo was later called into the office and ordered to sit out for causing havoc at the pitch. According to the Penguins captain, that was the last time he played baseball.

Sometimes things just do not work out the way they are originally. While Sidney Crosby has been a hockey fan for his life, he was good in other sports too. The incident regarding him and Jack Johnson with their baseball team has played a huge part in their lives. Both players have achieved success in NHL and have lifted the Stanley Cup.

Their story of success became all the way back in 2005. While Crosby was drafted as the number one overall pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Johnson was not far behind his friend. He was picked third in the draft round by the Carolina Hurricanes. Where Johnson has been a journeyman, appearing for several franchises throughout his distinguished career, Crosby has been a one-team player.

Crosby and Johnson are now preparing for their 17th and 19th year in NHL respectively. Looking back at the baseball incident, both stars would probably smile and claim that it worked out in the end for them. The duo could have easily been baseball stars but destiny had other plans for them as they graced the hockey field and became NHL greats.
