“Chance to prove” – Predators assign Joakim Kemell to Finnish Liiga’s JYP

On Monday, Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations and general manager David Poile announced that the team has decided to assign forward Joakim Kemell to the Finnish Liiga’s JYP from the Finland National Junior Team.
Kemell was selected by the Predators 17th overall in the first round of the 2022 National Hockey League Draft. In the recent 2022 World Juniors Championship, he led Finland to a silver medal while finishing with a team-high of 12 points with 4 goals and 8 assists, and ranked 2d amongst all skaters in the tournament.

The 18-year-old scored 4 goals, including the goal that sent the gold-medal game against Canada in OT, which recorded the most points made in a single World Junior Championship by a Predators draft pick in the tournament’s history.
In 2021-22, he professionally skated with the JYP while tallying 23 points with 15 goals and 8 assists in 39 games. He made his Liiga debut at the age of 17. Kemell was the youngest player in league history to record a goal in each of his first 2 career games.

Prior to his professional journey, Kemell participated in JYP’s U-20 where he led the team with 22 goals, and 36 points in the 2020-21 campaign. He also took an active part in the 2022 U-18 World Championship and served as an alternate captain at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
