The New York Rangers fan who was caught on camera hitting a Tampa Bay Lightning fan has been banned from entering Madison Square Garden for a lifetime. The Rangers fan, James Anastasio of Staten Island punched two Lightning fans after Game 5 on Thursday at Madison Square. He has been charged with a serious assault.
Garden officials responded heavily to the viral video that showed a Rangers fan knocking a Tampa Bay Lightning fan unconscious inside the venue. The police reported that the two exchanged words before the horrible incident took place. Not only did Anastasio punch the 26-year-old victim but also knocked out a good samaritan who went to help.
Lightning fan gets KO’d by Rangers fan after Game 5
After the punching incident took place, MSG reported in a statement, “Last night, an abhorrent assault took place against a Tampa Bay fan at the conclusion of the game — followed by a second assault against an individual who bravely intervened”. “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as this is now a criminal matter. The assailant will also be banned from The Garden and all other MSG venues for life.”
The officials further called the man’s actions an “abhorrent assault”. They further added, “All guests — no matter what team they support — should feel safe and respected in The Garden”. “This has and always will be our policy.”

According to tmz.com, the incident took place around 10:50 pm, a few minutes after Game 5 on Thursday. The Rangers fan Anastasio punched the Lightning fan soon after the game was over, where the Rangers lost to the Lightning at the famous venue.
The footage captured by the bystander shows the incident in clear light, and appropriate actions were taken soon after. It was said that the punch knocked out the Lightning supporter out cold. Anastasio tried to flee the scene soon after but a witness tried to stop him only to get hurt too.
Eventually, the cops took a hold of the situation and pressed charges against the puncher on assault, disorderly behaviour, and harassment. The victim reportedly woke up a few minutes after being KO’d. The other person wasn’t seriously injured and refused treatment.
