Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson got off safely considering the worse possible outcome it could have demonstrated after his horrifying car hit in Detroit. According to reports, the defenceman was riding his scooter for dinner when he got hit by a car on the crossways. 

Rasmus was immediately transferred to the Detroit Receiving Hospital where he underwent a “battery of tests” according to the team’s report on Twitter. They further announced that he’s currently day-to-day and will stick with the team’s four-day road game plan.

His absence from the roster will undoubtedly leave a gap, but fans are currently satisfied to know Rasmus is not severely injured. The incident occurred ahead of Thursday, prior to their game against Detroit Red Wings. The 26-year-old also confirmed that no alcohol was involved in this accident.

Rasmus Andersson sends ‘OK’ selfie to Mikael Backlund following accident

Flames GM Brad Treliving spoke with reporters following the accident and thanked every people involved in helping their core defenceman. He said, “He was going through a crosswalk”. “The good news – and the most important thing – is that Ras is doing well.” 

“He was transported by ambulance to Detroit Receiving Hospital. I want to make sure we thank the medical staff there and specifically Dr. D. Our medical staff was in consultation with them and the folks at the hospital.” 

“He’s doing well”. “In good spirits. We’re lucky. Very lucky. It certainly could have been a lot worse. We want to make sure that we thank all those involved (in his care) and let everybody know that Ras is doing well.”

General manager Brad further said that as of now he won’t be joining their lineup and with the ongoing medical checkups, they’ll “take this real slow”. Considering how frightening the situation was, they’ll check for the next 24 hours and make the decision accordingly. 

Rasmus, who’s in his 3rd year of$27.3 million 6-year contract will be kept under strict medical attention by the team’s medical staff until he gets back on ice. In the 2022-23 season, he has an average record of 7 goals, and 37 points in 51 games, with a career-high of 24:41 ice time.

Flames forward Mikael Backlund said he and his friends were waiting for the defenceman at their appointed place when they heard of the hit. Later Mikael got a selfie confirming Rasmus’ “Ok” condition. Mikael stated, “Hearing him say he was OK makes you feel a lot better”, according to The Athletic.

Defenceman Noah Hanifin said, “It’s scary, obviously”. “Being one of our teammates and getting the call and hearing something like that is something you definitely dread as a player. Fortunately, he seems to be doing alright. He got back to the hotel last night. Just really happy it wasn’t worse than it was.”
