“Still raw to me” – Red Wings forward David Perron still hung up about Blues exit

It’s been almost three weeks since the forward player David Perron joined his new team, the Detroit Red Wings. But it seems like he hasn’t grown accustomed to his new jersey yet. Perron is still quite in shock that he won’t be donning the St. Louis Blues jersey in the upcoming 2022-23 NHL season.

Perron stated to The Athletics Jeremy Rutherford, “I’m still in a little bit of shock that it didn’t work out, the way the years went”. “I guess if you see my performance declining or something, then you’re like, ‘Maybe there’s something there.” “That’s still like raw to me. I had to let some of the dust settle, and I guess I still have to let that happen.”

David Perron’s agent Allan Walsh had a talk with the St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong about possibilities to keep him within the team. But the team’s penning down Robert Thomas to a monstrous 8-year contract and re-signing Nick Leddy caused the team to walk away the 34-year-old forward.

Perron stated, as per thescore.com, “I just felt like that was going to be an easy extension to get done over the summer”. “I wasn’t going to be crazy. I just wanted something where I felt respected.” “After the performance, the loyalty, winning the Stanley Cup … all that combined, I just felt like if you wanted someone, you make it happen, you find a way”.

With the Blues Perron recorded a score of 27 goals and 30 assists while leading the Blues with 26 power-play points in 67 regular-season games. In the playoffs, he led with 9 goals and 13 points in 12 games before the team got eliminated by the Colorado Avalanche. Recently he inked a $9.5 million contract with the Red Wings.

Drafted by the Blues in the 2007 NHL Draft, Perron has total points of 665 in 973 NHL career games with the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburg Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, and Vegas Golden Knights. He ranks 9th in the franchise history of the Blues with 196 goals and eighth in points with 465 scores.
