Though the Nashville Predators snatched victory at the 2022 NHL Global Series Challenge, the crowd of Bern only remembered their captain, Roman Josi. This was the first time that Josi played at the hometown arena and won an NHL game.
It was not only his dream come true but also his family and friends who gathered during the event to cheer for him. Originally, Josi was supposed to play at the hometown arena back in 2020 but due to covid protocols, the game got canceled.
“Definitely one of my career highlights” – Roman Josi
Nonetheless, he made his wish come true, and many others as well. On Monday as the horn vibrated throughout the arena, crowds started chattering and chanting his name to cheer Josi. Mostly everyone was up on their feet in excitement and couldn’t catch a break to sit down or relax.
As the Predators and SC Bern lined up for the 3 stars, the crowd knew who their 1st star was. The announcer didn’t even need to finish pronouncing his name as “Roman…” as the crowds shouted out “Josi”.
At the PostFinance Arena in the exhibition win, Josi scored 2 goals and an assist to help his team win in front of 17,031 gathered people. As the arena buzzed with his name, Josi put up his stick, waved to the crowd, thumped his chest, and said, “It was very emotional”.
“I’m really grateful I had the chance to do this”. “It’s something I’ll never forget for the rest of my life and definitely one of my career highlights,” Josi exclaimed. His father was also present at the game with his full family.
Peter stated that it was the first time that his grandmother who is 93 years old visited the game and saw Josi in action. Peter said, “She’s very, very happy”. “For her, it’s an emotional thing.” No matter how many medals or wins Josi gathers after this, this game will be something he’ll never forget.
He was all over the ice on Monday and made sure he appreciated each and every moment whether he was playing in the game or saluting the crowd.
“I was definitely motivated”. “I thought our guys played really hard. Everybody was playing hard. It was an important game for us, the last game before our season starts.” “And, yeah, I was looking forward to this for a long time,” Josi commented.
