New York Islanders beat Rangers as Alexander Romanov is hit with a ‘hefty’ fine

Alexander Romanov

The New York Islanders and the Rangers were engaged in a preseason match on October 8th when a fired-up Alexander Romanov charged Rangers frontman Vincent Trocheck. Romanov would definitely be a pound lighter as he goes home. Although there were no major injuries at the moment, officials chose a minor penalty for Romanov for his erratic action.

Although, after the game, the Player Safety Department of the NHL fined the Islanders defenseman – the maximum amount possible i.e. $5000. That’s definitely going to leave a hole in the player’s pocket. The Player Safety department debated a violence check as the reason for the heavy fine.

With a resounding 3-1 victory over their rival New York Rangers, the Islanders posted their 4th consecutive win. Finishing the preseason off in style, the New York Islanders will be looking to build up on the momentum when the NHL games start.

Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin collected a heap of praise as he simply didn’t let the puck pass him by. He literally turned away all the shots in the first period that were thrown at him by the Rangers.

The Rangers on the other hand definitely didn’t want their preseason ending in such a way before they start their season against the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, it’s not all gloomy for the Rangers as they definitely outplayed Islanders in terms of shots taken (29-16). They just have to better their conversion rate.

Islanders forward Mathew Barzal, who just signed an eight-year contracts extension is set to be the highlight for New York Islanders’ forward line this season. The team has put a lot of faith in him and Barzal has responded well in terms of his performance on the rink.
