“Had such power” – Sand artist James Sun immortalizes Oilers fan, Ben Stelter, in his newest piece

Just like the Edmonton Oilers team and the fans, James Sun, a sand artist who immortalizes iconic moments, can forth to make Ben Stelter the subject of his next masterpiece. Sun immortalized the 6-year-old boy who had struggled in his life but never forgot to giggle in joy.
The Oilers superfan passed away on August 9th after battling for a year and a half with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Sun told NHL.com, “Even though he was only 6 years old, he had such power”.
Ben Stelter gets immortalized
Stelter became an integral part of the Oilers and their fans. He befriended the team captain Connor McDavid, and after each post-season game he happily exclaimed “Play La Bamba, baby!” Connor later thanked Ben’s parents to let them have the time to be with such an awesome kid.

Sun reached out to the Oilers about creating a sand portrait in memory of Ben and has also been in contact with Ben’s family as he wanted to gift the piece to them. The portrait consisted of Ben wearing his familiar Oilers jersey, and a hat while holding a teddy bear in his hands, against a vibrant blue background.
