The hockey world is still trying to come to terms with the Cutter Gauthier trade. The 19-year-old stunned the fans when he straight up refused to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. As a result of this, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. Former NHLer Sean Avery has now defended this move.

The 43-year-old is known for his hot takes across hockey. Following the end of his playing career, he has delivered some huge verbal attacks on players. This time he backed the move of Gauthier while slamming the Flyers fans and calling them ‘greasy‘ and ‘savages‘.

Sean Avery calls Cutter Gauthier an “American Hero” for his IIFH performances

At the moment, the name of Cutter Gauthier is heavily trending in Philadelphia. The youngster’s decision to refuse to play for the team that drafted him has not gone down well among many. However, some have backed him including Sean Avery who labeled him an “American Hero”.

The young hockey prodigy played an important part in Team USA’s success at the IIFH. During seven games, he scored two goals and picked up ten assists as his team clinched the gold. This made him a national treasure in the eyes of many who got excited to see him perform for the Flyers.

While defending his decision, Avery claimed he did what he felt was right and used his rights as he wished.

Gauthier now finds himself under immense backlash from the Flyers fans who have brutally attacked him on social media. To make matters worse, he was reported to have liked this video from Avery, further enraging the fans.

Only time will now tell how long the fans will remain angry with him. His first game against the Flyers is also expected to bring in some hostile reception from the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center.
