Former NHL defenceman Shane O’Brien once again blasted Bo Horvat following his talk on the podcast Missin’ Curfew. He recalled Horvat taking a jab at Canucks fans in April following a game between the Islanders and Flyers. The former Canucks captain called out the Vancouver crowd saying it’s better in NY.
According to Horvat, the forward was overcome with emotions when he compared NY to his former crowd stating, “it’s a lot better than Vancouver, I’ll tell you that for free”. He apologized the following day, but unfortunately, the Vancouver fans were not letting the matter go as easily as an apology.
O’Brien is of the same opinion, he refused to accept the forward’s apology stating it’s better for NY to have him than Vancouver loyal, “To me, he was backtracking like a motherherf***er. Vancouver fans are the best in the league”. He said that if the crowd calls you out for a loose game, it’s their right.
But he refuses to let Horvat’s comments hurt the Vancouver fans saying, “Come on, Bo. That’s not going to sit well with me, and it’s on you”. “You didn’t do sh** when you were there, and I personally think they’re better off without him”.
Shane O’Brien rips Bo Horvat following his disrespectful comments toward Vancouver fans
Shane O’Brien didn’t only stop there. He went on ramming Bo Horvat during his guest appearance on Cam and Strick Podcast. With this one thing is for sure, O’Brien is not joining the Horvat fan club anytime soon, or maybe never.
He trashed Horvat’s play calling him “soft” as he showed “no emotion, not hit anybody, not do anything, and then that would be it”. Horvat was traded to NY Islanders as the organization and the captain failed to come up with renewed contract terms.
Both Horvat and head coach Bruce Boudreau walked away from the team almost at the same time. Although fans were upset and wondered if this was the start of the Canucks fallen base, they still loved Horvat as their captain. Unfortunately, his remarks toward Canucks fans scarred them for a long period of time.
O’Brien further said that just because things didn’t work for you despite getting every opportunity, Horvat has no right to “come back at the fans in the city of Vancouver, because that’s a place to me that I love. I love the fans of that city,” O’Brien stated.
He talked about how Horvat has yet to make the playoffs, and this furthermore doesn’t give him any right to take a jab at his former home crowd. Whether Horvat will be standing up against O’Brien’s recent comment is yet to know.
