The ice hockey centre Shane Wright strongly wishes to join the Montreal Canadiens as their first overall. He noted that “it would mean the world” to him if gets a spot on their team during the first-round pick next month. But no doubt there will be tough competitions waiting for Shane in the July 7s race to the Bell Center Podium. Now the players just have to wait for the final announcements in July. On Saturday Shane at Colorado’s Ball Arena noted that “It’s out of my control now. What my opinion is — or what I say, or what I think — doesn’t matter at this point”. “It’s in the hands of Montreal and their management. I obviously would like to be the first-overall pick, but at the end of the day, it’s not my decision.”

Though Shane Wright has been the Top no. 1 prospect for the 2022 class for months, strong contenders like Juraj Slafkovsky and Logan Cooley can still give him a run for the spot. The Montreal Canadiens have been looking for a centre for some time now, and Shane has it all. He is quick to rack up points and has good defensive skills too. Recently he had the chance to have dinner with Canadiens rookie GM Kent Hughes and his brass.

As the decision day draws near Shane confessed his anxiousness about being in the spotlight, whether he gets first-round selection or not. He noted, “But I think more so excitement”. “Looking forward to going through the draft process, going through that experience. I think just being there, having the feel of getting drafted, I think is just what I’m most excited for.” He is confident in his selection to the Montreal Canadiens but also knows what it takes to be at the top. As the strong contender for this year’s drafting, Shane looks forward to the month of July that may take his life to a new turn.
