Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin brew up the perfect nightmare recipe for opponents following their pre-game interview. Crosby before their match against the Capitals asked Ovechkin who would he want as the third linemate if ‘The Great Eight’ and ‘The Next One’ wanted to join hands.
Ovechkin gave Crosby the perfect reply, as ‘Sid the Kid’ confirmed his answer. Ovechkin said, after a long pause, “He probably wants Mario Lemieux.” If these three were to join hands at any point in the future, it’ll be a nightmarish experience for their opponents.
While Ovechkin guessed Crosby’s dream linemate, he added that he would like Donald Brashear as their third linemate, “If we play together, I’d probably take Brash, Donald Brashear”. “We need some protection, some freedom out there.”

Donald Brashear and Alex Ovechkin shared the same locker room back in the day. Brashear was famous for his personality, as one of the meanest players in the National Hockey League. Furthermore, he incurred 2,634 penalty minutes in just 16 years of his professional career.
Though Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby’s rivalry has gone about nearly 2 decades, their faceoffs light up the arena with tensions flaring even now. As Ovie strives to cross Wayne Gretzky for the NHL record, Sid’s close friend Marc-Andre Fleury stated his support for the former. He said that the consistency he has shown in the run deserves to be rewarded.
Despite their clashes, Ovie and Sid played together during All-Star Game in 2017. During their game, they said that they enjoyed playing together as the rough tension wasn’t present at that moment. Sid said as he was setting the puck for Ovechkin, “I was trying to find him”.
“I know how great his shot is. I’m sure he was a little hesitant to use it in case he hits somebody out here, but it was just trying to make the most of the opportunity. That’s a unique opportunity. Usually, you’re playing against one another.”
They enjoyed their interactions and fun moments, as Ovie later said, “Best friends, how I always said.” “We were sacrificing everybody out there, blocking shots, going back and forth, don’t give them any way to get the lead”. “So it was fun playing.”
