On Thursday Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Washington Capitals in a 3-2 loss. The Capitals with their win successfully grabbed the 1st wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, as the Penguins trail behind by 1 point. Following the game’s conclusion Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had a little chat with the linesman.

His chat with linesman Andrew Smith grabbed the attention of the Capitals players including Alex Ovechkin who hovered over to hear what those two were talking about. Though details about what Crosby said are not revealed, RMNB’s Alan Dobbins speculated it to be about Lars Eller’s tackle.

Even Crosby’s stick broke in the middle of the game but no call was made from the official. Though speculations of his talk with Andrew are being made up, it is not sure what those two spoke about.

According to RMNB, “At the conclusion of the shootout, Crosby skated directly over to linesman Andrew Smith to have some words”. “While the Capitals celebrated their win, their attention went towards Crosby, the lone Penguin who was still on the ice.”

“Crosby skated with the linesman the majority of the way across the ice while drawing the eye of a bunch of Capitals players like Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin, Anthony Mantha, and Garnet Hathaway. They hovered nearby listening to the conversation. Crosby eventually parted and the Caps then saluted their fans at center ice.”

Nevertheless, all the Capitals players following the linesman and looking over at the lone Penguins player on the ice was a funny image altogether. Nicklas Backstrom who was grumpier before the play due to the team’s repetitive loss earlier ended the night on a happy note.

He said, “It’s always good to get a chance to do the shootout and obviously nice to get a win, too”. “That’s all that matters. Yeah, keep grinding.” Darcy Kuemper who was the hero of the game pumped his fists in the air after stopping Evgeni Malkin’s advances.

He stated, “It was a huge two points for us: That’s not really a secret”. “We knew how big this game was coming into it. It took us the stretch, but these games feel really good when you get the job done. We played super hard, and we earned it.”

Losing the game Crosby said, “We’ve done a pretty good job of just fighting and battling”. “It’s a nightly thing. We’ve got to make sure that we’re consistent, but we’ve been competing hard and finding ways and we’ve got to find another level here going into the stretch run.”

Though the turnout wasn’t what the Penguins expected, Casey DeSmith did an excellent job by holding back 43 of 45 shots in regulation. “I felt great,” DeSmith said. “I felt like myself.”

“I felt like I played my game, which I was really happy about. That was kind of my focus going in — just trusting my game, going out and playing it and thankfully I was able to do that,” he said.
