Frustrated Sidney Crosby VOICES concern over team performance after 2-1 loss to Bruins in 2023 Winter Classic game

There are some games that one simply cannot forget like Sidney Crosby’s 2008 Winter Classic games. While there are some like the recent 2-1 loss against Boston Bruins. As the Bruins and Penguins donned vintage baseball jerseys at Fenway Park prior to the game, fans recalled the 2008 experience.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the recent game. The loss hit hard, as Crosby shook his head in disappointment. The Penguins have not been winning any games since the last 5 match-ups. They failed to protect the leads they secured during the third period of the game, resulting in the loss.

Despite the upsetting situation, as a captain of the team, he didn’t forget to praise the players where they deserved. He noted, “Everybody was pretty solid”. “It’s tough that we weren’t able to build on that lead and let them hang around and they capitalized on a couple. … It was a pretty even game all the way through, I thought.”

Sidney Crosby further said, “We have to find a way to close out games”. “We had the four-goal lead there (against Detroit last Wednesday) and have a lead going into the third period (against Boston). At least get a point.”

“When you have a lead in the third like that, it’s not easy when you give up the lead, but you have to find a way to gather at least a point out of it and easy what happens in overtime. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do that, and we have to learn from it. We did some good things tonight, so we have to try to build off that.”

Crosby wasn’t the only one who was upset. Jake Guentzel clearly appeared frustrated during the post-game interview. After the first two periods, the team started to lose momentum. The final 20 mins of the game were extremely crucial as Bruins pulled the game in their favor.

Jake praised goalie Casey DeSmith who came to the rescue after Tristan Jarry got placed on injured reserve. Jake said about Casey, “He played amazing. Gave us a chance to win”. Regarding the game he noted, “I’m not sure (if the game changed then)”.

“Maybe the emotions were off a little bit but I think it was a good game, overall. Back and forth. I thought we played well. Just a couple of lapses there. But they’re a good team, too.” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan also said, “It was obviously a real competitive hockey game”.

“It was a pretty even game. There’s a fine line between winning and losing, and we ended up on the wrong side of it tonight.” “It was such a game of momentum”. “I don’t think there were a lot of real high-quality looks on either side.” “It comes down to some subtle details and some timely plays.”
