Sidney Crosby’s tornadic debut on NHL ice marked his name as one of the best players in the history of the league. His current accomplishments may be the highlights of his career, but the Rimouski Oceanic fans can never forget that wintery day in 2005.

Crosby along with his Oceanic teammates was returning for their game when they came across a group of dedicated Oceanic fans. The fans had been in line for 18 hours and more to buy tickets for the team’s upcoming game. Crosby and his teammate Eric Neilson decided to honor the fans for their love and support.

The two players bought coffee for the fans who were almost frigid in the icy cold weather. Not only did they offer them coffee from Tim Horton’s but they also bought all the cakes and baked goods as a gesture of saying thank you. It’s true that fans’ unwavering support is what keeps a team alive, and Crosby knew how to pay them back.

Recently the Tim Horton’s restaurant chain reunited Sidney Crosby with his former Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teammate Eric Neilson for a new TV commercial. They invited some of the fans who were present that day, making the players relive and relish a precious memory.

It’s a 17 year ago incident that still brought the fans and the players together once again through a cup of sipping hot coffee. According to Newswire, Crosby noted, “Rimouski will always hold a special place in my heart”.

“The dedication of our amazing fans who watched every game, braved storms, and 18-hour waits for playoff tickets. There are so many memories from Rimouski I will never forget.”

Horton’s Chief Marketing officer Hope Bagozzi said, “Whether it’s the ritual of grabbing coffees and hot chocolates for an early morning at the rink, or sharing donuts and Timbits after a game, so many Canadian hockey memories are made with Tims.”

He said that he was excited to see Canadians share their precious #TimsHockeyMemories and how that played “a role in celebrating both their big and little wins on and off the ice.”

No matter how far Crosby goes in NHL, 2005 day will always retain a special seat in the hearts of the Oceanic fans. Horton’s did an exceptional job at reliving and reuniting them 17 years later. During Crosby’s QMJHL days, he and Eric became best friends. Even after so much time has passed, these two share special bonds.

Eric acknowledged that “Sidney Crosby, in many ways, has had a huge impact in my life. I have rubbed shoulders with several excellent players over my career in Rimouski. Ryan Clowe, Aaron Johnson, Thatcher Bell, of the guys who won the Memorial Cup with the Oceanic in 2000. But this 16 year old boy was different.”
