The NHL world still remains shocked following the Nottingham Panthers announcement regarding forward Adam Johnson. The 29-year-old forward passed away in a “freak accident during a game in England on Saturday. The Pittsburgh Penguins and other teams recalled fond memories of the forward as they mourned his death.

Sidney Crosby reminiscences about spending time with Johnson on ice as he stated that he was “just a great guy” with “an awesome attitude when he was here.” Crosby further said that no words can describe how great of a player and person Johnson was and he’ll always be a “great teammate” to them.

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan also shared his thoughts on Adam Johnson. He said that not only was he a good player but also “a great kid” in general. He further recalled how his skating hooked Sullivan as the coach wanted to dress forward in the Pens outfit.

NHLers recall fond memories of Adam Johnson following forward’s passing away

Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Lafferty recalled the 2019 moment when Adam Johnson sent a slap shot, stunning the crowd in the arena in a 7-4 win at Minnesota Wild. He said that the moment the shot went into the goal Johnson’s face exuded “just pure elation, pure joy.”

Kris Letang said he was there on the ice during Adam Johnson’s first goal. According to him, the 29-year-old was just a “calm, quiet, but at the same time, just a great guy to be around.” Forward Bryan Rust also credited Johnson as a kid “on the quieter side, but always super nice.”

Adam Johnson became a victim of a “freak accident” when his neck was slashed by a skate blade during the game. The accident happened during the 2nd period of the EIHL game between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers.

Fans are saddened by the passing away of Johnson. It was reported that his fiancee ran off on ice after the accident happened and prayed with all her might to save the young ice hockey player. His parents and grandparents were also watching the game when the accident happened.

This incident will undoubtedly leave a mark in NHL history. Following his death, many coaches and players have questioned NHL safety and asked for changes.
