The 2023-24 National Hockey League (NHL) season is almost here. As the sporting fever kicks up across the country, this NHL season promises to be another exciting one. Fans are curious about how the star players including Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid will perform this time out. The duo share one major common factor apart from their skills and goal-scoring abilities, their nationality.
The two have been Canada’s brightest stars in Hockey in recent years. While Crosby has been hailed as “The Next One“, McDavid has continued to impress since his debut where he was the most-hyped number-one overall draft pick. Despite sharing the same nationality, the forward duo has never been on the ice at the same time when it matters the most. Crosby wants to change that and is even willing to sacrifice his wing position to accommodate McDavid.
To think that two of the best players of this generation have never represented their country together comes as a surprise. For years, McDavid has been wanting to take part in international tournaments only for the chance to play with Crosby. This might come true as the NHL and the NHLPA recently announced to start a regular international tournament in 2025.
“I’ll go there. I’ll play my off-wing, no worries. Listen, I’ve skated with him and I’ve played both, so I think I’m good either way with playing center or wing, whatever he wants to do. He can carry the mail. I’ll just find the opening,” Crosby was quoted by theScore.
Can Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid guide Canada to further glory?

There is no denying that Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid are two pillars of the NHL. The two players have led their teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers from the front respectively. These two NHL greats have broken several records and accomplished several feats in their careers. The prospect of these two lining up together in front of one team makes Canada one of the clear favorites.
While nothing is still finalized, the league is hoping to host a World Cup in 2025. By the time the event takes place, Crosby would be 38 years old. However, the way he is going, age seems like just another number for him. He thought that there were no clear favorites and claimed it would not be simple.
Crosby said that when one looks at the other countries, then they will realize how tight the situation is. As per Crosby, despite the success at the Olympics, the pressure will be on Canada. The veteran ended off by saying that the sport of hockey is incredible and it cannot get any better than this.
The previous time these two were together in the same tournament was in the 2016 World Cup. While Crosby represented Team Canada as their captain, McDavid was part of the under-23 Team North America. The fans have now started to dream of this link-up despite the actual NHL season kicking off in less than a month’s time.
