“Jim Nill Masterclass,” NHL fans on cloud nine as Stars acquire top defenseman Chris Tanev through three-team trade

As the month of March approaches, the pace of action in NHL has kicked off. Teams have now started to push for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Apart from this, the trade market is going on strong as well as the Dallas Stars have now acquired top defenseman Chris Tanev through a three-team trade.
The former Calgary Flames man is now going to Dallas as a part of this development. This deal also includes the New Jersey Devils as they initially acquired him. However, the Devils later sent him to the Stars.
The Flames have acquired defenseman prospect Artem Grushnikov and the Stars’ second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. Apart from this they also get a 2026 NHL draft third-round conditional pick. Whereas the Devils receive Dallas’ fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft while they retain 50 percent of his salary for this ongoing season.
The 34-year-old defenseman has been in solid form this season and has picked up a total of 14 points (one goal, 13 assists). He also lead the Flames in the total number of blocks (171) for the season.
He though was in the last year of his four-year, $18 million deal. Following the end of the season, Tanev will become an unrestricted free agent.

The fans on social media have gone bonkers as the Dallas Stars acquired Chris Tanev. While he may have only signed with the team till the end of the season, this puts the team in a great position to push for the title with his addition.
Social media users have since hailed Stars General Manager Jim Nill for his work in his trade. They would thrown in several reactions with many labeling this deal as a “Jim Nill masterclass“.

All three of this teams involved in this trade are currently in the mix of a playoff race. The Stars though are ahead of both of them despite losing two games on the bounce. The fans are now hoping to see Tanev continue to shine like a bright star in a team named Stars, while going forward in the season.
