Apart from his career with the Dallas Star, he also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, and Buffalo Sabres. He recorded a score of 253 points with 51 goals and 202 assists in 842 games. He also added 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists in 46 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
As reported on nhl.com, Andrej Sekera commented on the Slovakia newspaper SME, “My hockey career is over”. “I’ve had some offers as a free agent, but still I decided to quit. A big reason was my son had had some medical issues during the last year. After everything we went through, I realized the best would be if I devoted more time to my family. I thought maybe it would turn around somehow, but that did not happen.”
Apart from Sekera’s NHL career he actively participated on the international stage. He took part in IIHF World U18 Championship five times, two times in World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, and was named to the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2022. He won the World Cup of Hockey in 2016 with Team Europe.
