Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos becomes one of the few active players to join the exclusive 1,100 points club with one franchise. He joined the likes of Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Alex Ovechkin (Washington Capitals), Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins), Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks), and Anze Kopitar (Los Angeles Kings).

Stamkos became the 29th active player in NHL history to achieve the feat. To further celebrate his special day, the team won against Arizona Coyotes with a 6-3 record in the latest match. So far, Stamkos has played an enormous role in the team’s success, especially noting Thursday night’s game where he recorded 2 points, 1 goal, and 1 assist in 6 shots on goal.

Steven Stamkos comments on Nikita Kucherov’s Hart Trophy selection

While Steven Stamkos is happy about his own achievements, and the team’s win, he’s not ecstatic about the lack of buzz Nikita Kucherov received despite his selection for Hart Trophy. Kucherov along with Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon are strong contenders for the Hart Trophy, but the latter seemed more popular in the rankings.

The pair successfully separated themselves from the 2023-24 crowd to come on top as the NHL’s best individuals. Both enjoyed a dominant week, as Kucherov recorded a hat trick during a four-point game on Tuesday and MacKinnon with 4 goals and one assist on Wednesday.

Kucherov even overtook MacKinnon with three points in Thursday’s game. Steven Stamkos commented, that despite his numbers and powerful play style Kucherov didn’t get much fan attention on his Hart Trophy selection.

We’re not the biggest market in the NHL and although we’ve had a ton of success, that’s just the way it is for whatever reason…For him to be doing what he’s doing is even more impressive.

The 2024 Hart Trophy winner announcement will have all eyes glued to it. As of now, Kucherov is topping MacKinnon with 83 points on 32 goals and 51 assists. The latter boasts 82 points on 30 goals and 52 assists. Team success may also hold an edge for the MVP selection. Nevertheless, it’ll be a hard and tough choice to make among the two favorites.
