Thompson shot out 4 goals in the very first period of the game which is a rare occasion in the League, as there are not many who achieved the feat. Till now there have been only 4 recorded gameplays in the last 101 years where a player netted so many goals in a period. Thompson became the first to achieve the feat in over 28 years, standing as the 2nd fastest to do so in a game.

In the first 20 minutes, he successfully netted 4 goals and an assist, allowing the Sabres to close the period with a 6 goal lead. The 25-year-old stated, “It’s definitely a rewarding feeling”.

“You’ve spent a lot of years working to get to this point and to be rewarded for it is a pretty good feeling and it just leaves you hungrier.”

Wednesday night, Thompson made a record of 5 goals and 6 assists in the game against the Blue Jackets. His achievements earned him 2nd place in franchise history. Fans were both amused, disbelieved, and entertained at the same time. Those who were present in the arena on the night will have an unforgettable gift to take with them.

Sabres coach Don Granato said, “That was an amazing performance by Tage, and really, the whole group set the table”. “I thought the energy, the collective effort, the focus to start was really good and enabled that to happen.” Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen commented, “We didn’t have an answer for that one line”. “Tage Thompson just tore us up tonight.”
