Team Matthews claims NHL All-Star crown following 7-4 triumph against Team McDavid
Auston Matthews took the center stage on Saturday night as he led his team to victory at the NHL All-Star event.

This weekend, the National Hockey League hosted its annual NHL All-Star game as players across the league came together for the showpiece event. In this, Team Matthews led by their captain Auston Matthews prevailed as 7-4 winners over Team McDavid led by Connor McDavid.
This year the event took place at the Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs. During the mini tournament’s 3-on-3 final, Matthews stole the show in front of his home crowd. He steered his team to victory while scoring two goals and setting up one in the final.
This triumph saw his side clinch the $1 million share prize. This topsy turvy game saw both sides have their moments as the stars shined. One of the highlights of the game came in the first period when the two teams combined to score three goals in under twenty seconds.
Mitch Marner first restored the lead of his team before David Pastrnak pulled Team McDavid back in the game to make it 2-2. Matthews later took upon himself and slammed home the fifth goal of the first period to take it 3-2 lead. At the end, Matthews’ team were able to hold their composure and emerged victorious.
Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, stole the show on Friday night during the All-Star skills competition. He though had to settle with a runner-up’ spot in this event. Speaking after the final, he admitted that their defence broke down a bit which saw then concede seven goals.

Auston Matthews named NHL All-Star MVP
The 2024 NHL All-Star event is in history books now. The marquee event saw several stars vow the crowd in Toronto with their performances. However, there could be only one MVP and it was Auston Matthews.
The Maple Leafs forward is enjoying a great time on the ice this season and is the team’s leading goal scorer. He continued this form with an excellent performance in front of his home crowd.
The 26-year-old once again showed off his attacking prowess by scoring two goals and setting up one in a thrilling final showdown against Connor McDavid’s team. This win makes him the second-in-a-row hometown MVP after Matthew Tkachuk won his honor in Florida last year.
Following the event, Matthews hailed the home crowd and claimed it was a “special” week for them.
