3x Olympic gold medalist Tessa Virtue gets engaged to Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly

Two of Canada’s favorite ice skaters, Tessa Virtue and Morgan Rielly confirmed their engagement Tuesday afternoon in a podcast ‘Without Losing Your Cool’. The power couple has been in a relationship for about three years, first meeting via mutual friends in Vancouver. 

The 3x Olympic gold medalist Tessa revealed their relationship details on the podcast, confirming many of the fan’s suspicions. Though they kept their relationship profile hidden from the public eye, they did leave out hints on social media.

Tessa’s New Year post on Instagram confirmed the couple’s relationship where captioning the photo as “So long, 2022…you were a special one”. The couple hit off during their first meeting and has been in contact ever since.

Back in March 2020, Tessa Virtue and Morgan Rielly appeared on an Instagram live together at the Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman’s hometown. Even after that, they were captured together skating on ice prior to Leaf’s outdoor game last March.

It is supposed that Rielly pulled out the engagement ring when the Leafs visited New York to challenge the Rangers on December 15. Looking at their Instagram picture, it is suspected that Rielly may have proposed to Tessa on the streets of Manhattan. Though it’s a far-fetched theory.

In 2019 Tessa and her partner Scott Moir announced their retirement from the competitive skating world. They have been in collaboration for a long time and won 3 gold and 2 silvers in the Winter Olympics. The pair was also the recipient of the Order of Canada.

Rielly on the other hand signed a long-term contract with the team that’ll pull him till the 2030 season. He signed an 8-year $60 million contract with the Leafs with a $9 million signing bonus and an annual average value of $7.5 million.

In his career, Rielly recorded 390 points with 69 goals and 321 assists in 677 games. In the 2022-23 season, he has scored 17 assists in 23 games so far and was registered to the IL shortly. Tessa Virtue on the other hand has a net worth of $7 million and is regarded as the richest female ice skater.
