Travis Sanheim goes from almost being UNEMPLOYED to signing a $50 MILLION deal
Travis Sanheim
Travis Sanheim might be feeling like the luckiest guy alive at the moment. It seems like the fortune gods really showed up on his doorstep. In the last year of his $12.5 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers that he signed in the Covid-hit 2021 season, Sanheim was set to become a free agent with an unsure future.
Although the Flyers showed confidence in their 26-year-old defenseman by offering him a humongous $50 million contract for a span of 8 years. That’s a huge leap from his previous deal considering he was to be an unrestricted free agent after this year. He’ll be relieved now with a settled future in front of him.
With 31 points last season from 7 goals and 24 assists (not bad for a defensive player) in a total of 80 games, Sanheim would be looking to build up on the confidence that the flyers have shown in him.
Travis Sanheim is a ‘money-man’ now
Philadelphia Flyers opened their season with a thumping 5-2 victory over New Jersey Devils. After the win, Travis Sanheim said – “Obviously, super thrilled and appreciative of [the Flyers] being able to extend me for that long. On my last deal, I was able to have that in that I could be walking to UFA. I’m happy that we were able to work something out. Happy to be here for another eight years. I love it here.”
Happy with the extension, Travis Sanheim showered praises for the team and other staff that have helped him throughout his time at the Flyers. “Love the group here, love the organization, the fans, the city, so everything just added up. Me and Chuck [Fletcher] talked at the end of last season that it was a priority to get something done in the offseason, and he stuck with his word, and I’m happy to get the extension” – an ecstatic Sanheim stated.
Travis Sanheim was the No. 17 pick at the 2014 NHL Draft by the Flyers. He has amassed a total of 116 points from 29 goals and 87 assists in season games. When it comes to the playoff games for the Stanley Cup, Travis has 8 points from 2 goals and 6 assists. The Flyers would be looking for week-in-week-out performances from Sanheim after investing a great deal in him.
